making a Contender break open easier
« on: February 04, 2004, 10:54:58 AM »
I've put together a T/C contender in 7X30 Waters for my daughter (10) but she finds it difficult to squeeze the lever hard enough to break open the action.  Can anything be done to lighten it up a bit?

I have seen a lever that makes it easier but have forgoten where on the net I saw it. Also TC changed the spring on the contenders at some point to make them easier to open this may be an option if you have the heavy spring. My Daughter has to use both hands to open mine but really likes the contender.

You can lighten the spring that the trigger guard hinges from. That helps tremendlessly. I had the same problem with my daughter and put in a lighter spring. No problem for her now. I don't know if I would do it to a hard kicking calliber but it works great with the lighter ones.   KN
