Varget and 22-250
« on: January 27, 2010, 03:27:40 PM »
Hi all,

I just bought a lb. of Varget.  I have 4064 also, but heard good things about the Varget.
I also bought two sleeves of LR primers and realized they were CCI when I got home.  :-\ I usually use Winchester primers.

- Will the primers make a difference?  Do you stick with one brand?
- Any good loads?  The bullet is 55 grain.

Thanks!

My 22-250 load is 36 grains of Varget with CCI 200 primers using Hornady 50 grain V-max pellets. It's a very accurate load that chronographs at 3488 fps.
Hunting and fishing are not matters of life or death. They are much more important than that.

with a 50 grain bullet i get good groups at 37 grains of varget, about 1/2 grain from max.

usually i find a good grouping load before i get that close to max though.
I have it on good authority that the telepromter is writing a stern letter.

I use IMR4064 35.2gr. 55gr bullet,cci 200 primer. What I found to be more accurate is IMR4064 35.8gr, 50gr.bullet.cci200 primer both with an oal of 2.350
