Another Contender accuracy question
« on: January 28, 2010, 03:22:29 AM »
Using the same load and same barrel, same day, etc, has any one actually found a difference in accuracy by switching frames? Could one frame produce better or worse groupings than another?

If the barrel would be locking up tighter on 1 frame than the other, that would be a good reason it would differ.
Headspace could change very slightly, although I think the lockup question would cause accuracy probs. more.
Give it a try and let us know. You may have to have a barrel that really shoots to see any difference, the frames will need the same grips, as different grips will cause some varience.
 Good luck.

I have never lost accuracy by switching barrels and frames around, but I have noticed a change in point of impact.  In other words, if I have a barrel sighted in with a particular frame, then switch the barrel to another frame, it may not be "dead on" and may require a click or two on the scope to adjust the zero.

Yes, without question.  Changing barrels to different frames can change accuracy.  Trigger pull, hammer drop, and barrel lock up all play a part.  All of my competition barrels have frame number painted on them so I get exact frame every time.

Yes!!!! I head space all my Tenders and Encores off the shoulder and switching frames can change frame to barrel gap in this case would change my head space and very well may change accuracy!
