This is why it is important to actually listen to speeches
« on: January 28, 2010, 01:51:44 AM »
The opening of today's USAToday lead article on the state of the union address starts with this:

"President Obama pledged Wednesday to refocus his ambitious agenda on the nation's struggling economy, vowing in his first State of the Union Address to make job creation his immediate goal and deficit reduction his holy grail."

I listened to the whole speech and did not come away with that impression. I don't know how anyone listening to the speech would conclude  that. Yes, there was mention of jobs, but it wasn't anything focused or definite. He did mention a few tax incentives for small businesses, and government spending on various projects.

I don't know how the author of the piece could possibly conclude that deficit reduction figured importantly in the speech.

(I should say that his mention of the tax incentives made me very skeptical because I assume there will be more red tape to make them ineffective, such as small incentives for employers who take the expensive initiative of hiring somebody.)

Like most of the liberal media these days, if you read what they print or listen to what they say you have to wonder if they were listening to the same speech as you just heard!

Got to make it sound good for fear that the people might figure out what is happening and just how bad of shape our country really is in.
Makes for a good diversionary tacit, keep them guessing, makes it easier to control them.
God forbid the people ever to know the truth.

Considering the fact it's totally impossible for government to create jobs, those speeches start off on the wrong foot to begin with.  A private job has never been created by government ever, not one.
So I guess it's a lie to begin with.

All government can do is back off on taxes, play with the interest rate a bit...stop or in this case, roll back and reverse spending.  We do all the rest.  "Doing nothing" is even better than what they already did.

I feel sorry for Americans that listen to how government can create jobs for them and actually believe it.
I had no idea there were that many ignorant people in the U.S....but I guess there is.

The government actually can create useful and private sector jobs if it proceeds with policies that encourage and fascilitates such things as energy and water projects.  If I actually thought that Osama's pledge to push for nuclear power plants, clean coal and the like was anything but BS, I'd say, give him an ataboy.  To this point, he and the Dumbycrats have done everything they can to stop real meaningful energy development.  Unless you believe that windmills are the answer.

Magooch:

Nice post!

I think we need a bill in congress to explore the role of oxen in industrial processes and transportation. I don't know why they're overlooking this.

That's why I quit buying and reading newspapers years ago. They are dinosaurs soon to become extinct.

I didn't listen to OB's speech because I don't need to waste my time listening to someone lie to me. Maybe the reporter from USA figgured the same thing.

Wow I completely missed the speech, when was it? ;D

I spent the first part of the evening in the man cave relaoding. Time well spent. ;)
Then I came in and watched the outdoors channel. Again time well spent. ;)
After that I topped the night off with a good sleep. Once again time well spent. ;)

Like others, I had better things to do than watch it; so much faster to read it ... and actually see the words he read aloud. Anyway, here's the transcript if you like.

The BEST thing government can do is NOTHING. Anything they do beyond that is harmful.
