loading for encore
« on: February 03, 2010, 04:31:27 PM »
how often have you guys needed to full length resize? i have a 3 die set but was wondering if every few loads you HAVE to full size them?

i have not loaded for encores much and i bought a new one and dies and brass, getting into it long term and kinda want to know if the comments i have read are correct or if people are blowing smoke.

i assume its due to stretch from the frame lockup, and that it may over time, weaken the brass?

I have always loaded for the Encore just like I do for everything else. If the cases cause the action to be hard to close then bump the shoulder back, but I have never had that problem, but I don`t load to the absolute max. eather.

Matt

Any of the break open actions are going to be less forgiving than a bolt as far as the brass goes , Catfish is right , when the action starts to get tough to close , bump the shoulder back a touch , I do that with both my Handi's as well as my TC's . They need it about every 3rd loading provided that I don't run the loads to max .

My Handi 22-250 that loves MAX loads , needs FL sized every time to close the action properly .  ??? so I only get about 3 loads per case with it .  ;D

so the comments i heard are kinda overblown.

i have owned an encore before but did not shoot it enough to reload much for it.

this one is going to be my main "go-to" and i wanted to know the facts.

sounds like no big deal, just bump the shoulder back every 3 or so loadings.

thanks!

I've got 4 loadings on some of my 270's with only neck-sizing so far , may have to bump them back on this next set of rounds though as the action is getting a little tougher to snap shut .  ;D

set the shoulder back just enough that when you put an empty case in the chamber and slide it past the extractor and check to see if the case is flush with a strait edge that is the proper way to size break open guns otherwise the groups that the gun will shoot wil string verticle groups and tend to loose accuracy in a hury
