Went out Friday morning to try my luck. Had not been seeing any deer just lots of mosquitos. Was a beautiful morning mid 30's ( cold for south west georgia ) decided to hunt from a ladder stand in some heavy woods instead of from my Tree Lounge. My longest shot would be around 75yds. There were squirrels everywhere they did a good job of keeping me alert. A little before 8 a 4 pointer sneaks up to about 25-30yds right of my stand. I'm able to take the shot hit the deer just behind the right shoulder and exits low behind the left shoulder. The deer takes off running goes about 50yds then falls. The bullet completely destroyed the lung area. The exit hole is enormous. You could have followed the blood trail by feel.
The gun is a T/C Encore with a 15" 338WinMag barrel with a brake. It is topped with a Bushnell 2x6 Elite.
The scope was set on 3 power.
I'm shooting 180g Nosler BT at 2840fps.
I had this gun set up for a farm I hunt where the closest shot would be around 150yds. I'm sighted 1.5" high at 150yds which puts me about 3" low at 250. But it worked just fine at 25-30yds.
