A Quarter inch one side or the other and he would have lost a toe !

OUCH

I dont know any details other than what is obvious and that
is all I NEED to Know !

SOMEONE WAS CARELESS

The good thing is he can still probably wear his shoes
if he cleans em up and most folks might not notice anything
unusual :-)

 Ouch, a guy I know did something similar, he was dry-firing his 45acp while sitting in his easy chair.

I've seen that before. The wound is old even in this picture. Looks good w/ no signs of infection. Definitely lucky!

about 15 years ago we had a guy in jail with a wound that looked like that he and a drunk friend were fighting over a 45. several times they told him they were going to cut off his toes due to infection , but if I rember right he recovered and can still count to 20! DR

Anybody that stupid would have a hard time counting to 20 before the shot was fired ;D
