With in 50 miles of where i live there are at least 16 gun stores . With in 100 miles there are at least 35 or more . Its getting hard to visit them all these days . There are several gun shows a mo. near here also .

There are 4 on the island; one focuses on ripping off newcomers to the tacticool market. One has a robust reloading inventory at competitive prices to Midway. One is active in shooter education and is transfer friendly. We get maybe one or two shows a year. The store I use alot has been pretty transparent about how the distributors are exploiting the panic.

As far as dedicated gun stores - about 3 within 50 miles.  There are a few other "outdoors" stores that are privately owned and sell guns, but they're not specifically a gun shop.  Most of my used guns I tend to get from Pawn shops these days though. I would try to give the straight up gun stores a bit more business but they all just price their stuff ridiculously.  Example: went browsing this weekend at several of them.  Saw a NIB Ruger SR9.  Pricetag?  $599.  I've seen them as low as $369 new on auction sites.  $399 seems more common. For the convenience of buying local I might could excuse up to $450.  But $599?  Heck no.  I know a lot of them price a bit higher so that they can "negotiate" down to a certain price if the customer haggles, but I'm just not motivated to play the haggle game these days.  If the pricetag isn't in the ballpark of what I'm willing to pay than I don't bother even inquiring about it.

As it is about all I buy from any of them is powder and primers to reload - shipping on those makes buying online uneconomical after hazmat fees.  I also maintain a range membership with the local shop that has an indoor range.

Within a 10 mi radius of my home there are 12 small family owned gun shops.   Also there are 3 big outdoors box stores.    within 50 miles there would be more than i could count.

Houston has a good number--how many I don't know.
There are not many good ones though.
There are not many with knowledgeable help.
Fortunately we have one, Collectors Firearms, tha is a true gun store and carries more weapons, in more flavors than a man can afford to want.
Gun shows in Houston have become outrageous.
I am going to the Austin Gun Show in Feb--it is a good show.
Blessings

wl, when we were out your way last month we saw a Gold, Guns & Guitars shop on the interstate ... had to stop! Nothing like it in Oahu. Although Dog the bounty hunter might support a franchise.  :)

We have a bunch within 50 miles of home, but the problem is I know of 7 of them that just opened within the last 3 years.  They jumped in to make a quick buck and what they accomplished was to saturate and cripple the market.  Within the next 6 months to a year all 7 will be gone and in the process will be taking out some of the older places.  There's only so much regular business available to sustain a gunshop and most of us remember who has treated us right in the past and better yet, who tried to take advantage of the situation.

2  years ago, we had four in our little town.  Now we have one, and he's struggling.  We also have one pawn shop that will order new.  If you stretch it out about 50 miles, there are probably a dozen or so.

There is one right up the street from me where I buy my powder and primers and occasionally
a gun if the price is right. Other than that the rest of them are total ripoffs. I don't do
business with them. I don't like liars and I especially don't like people who don't know what
they are talking about and then they try to put one over on me like they do. I mostly buy
online and go through my FFL and avoid the headaches and come out way ahead money wise.

I live on a dirt road 6 miles outside a one stoplight town of 2,000 people, but it has a gunstore! Next town down the line, 12 miles, has an Ace Hardware that sells guns-n-ammo. Other than that it's about 40 miles into Jacksonville (Fl) to any more.

We have everything from full service shops tp pawn shops to box stores to hardware stores to guys working out their homes . Prices seem ok for the most part . The better dealers will meet other stores prices ( some will call to check prices ).
