Late this afternoon I needed to boil a few more traps and so I got everything ready and started building my fire.  When I got the fire going, I grabbed a cup of coffee and sat down next to my fire.  I watched at the clouds rolled in and they were the type fortelling a front moving in.  The air got a little cooler and I sat and watched the clouds until a squirrel ran up the big oak next to where I was and started fussing at me.   My attention went to the squirrel until he came down and started gathering acorns and carrying them off a short distance and burying them.

As darkness came on, I got another cup of coffee and sat watching the fire.  The flames were captivating.  I thought of what a wonderful life we trappers live.  I thought of the great opportunities we have as trappers.  I have heard it said that trapping is hard work, but I prefer to think of it as a wonderful challenge with great rewards.

As I sat watching the fire in the darkness, my thoughts turned to this forum.  What a marvelous thing it is for all of us to be able to share on this forum.  From the most experienced to the least experienced, from the youngest to the oldest, we are all blessed by having this forum.  THANKS TO GB AND BOGMASTER.

My thoughts also turned to some of you personally.  WHAT A GREAT HONOR it is to be able to see what some of the MASTERS of trapping have to say here.  I treasure each comment by people such as Asa, Boggy, RdFx, T-man and yes, even the WQ.  Again, WHAT AN HONOR!!  To the young folks to trapping, I would say- take heed to what these great men of trapping have to say.  It is truly a priviledge to be able to read comments from these men.  I fancy myself as a fair trapper but would stand in awe if I were in the presence of some of these men.  If I were to meet them personally, I would humbly ask if it would be ok for me just to listen and learn from them.

It is also an honor to read what the "newcomers" or "youngsters" have to say.  They are the future of trapping and I hope I always treat them with the respect they deserve.  None of them ask dumb questions- just questions which they need answers to help them along their way.  WE all have been there - don't forget that!  Some of them may be the MASTER TRAPPERS  of the future.  

I am not trying to blow smoke up anyones rear here-  just telling it as I see it and feel it.  Folks, this is a wonderful big family we have here and though we may disagree occasionally as a family might, we are still family.  I am totally honored to have all of you as Trapping family and bow with respect to each and every one of you.  

Let's keep this forum forever!!

    I couldn't have said it better myself. I come here everyday and read what has been posted but don't reply much. Not that I am a rookie-its just that I enjoy reading what the big guns have to say........Take care---John

  You are doing a great job here and I thank you for your leadership as well as your sponsorship.  All of us on this forum would be well advised to repay in a small way by patronizing your business.  I know I will in the future.  

John;
  I had intended to mention and forgot to-- there are those who are consumate professionals at trapping who visit this forum but say little.  To them, I offer my gratitude as well.  One of the finest trappers I have ever known had very little to say but was always there if he was needed.  Some who visit this forum are like that.  They remain in the shadows but step up when needed.  Thanks again to them.

Oh Gosh;
  I knew I would forget someone if I started calling names.  I apologize the the man who likes a PINK TRUCK!  He is one of the guys I admire and highly respect.  I purchase from him and am never disappointed with his products!!
  Newt, thanks for being a friend and the encouragement you have given.  BUT!  I still don't think you need a Pink truck :lol:

Joe im not a master  as im still learning.  Im just passing on what ive learned fm trappers that have gone on before me and  sometimes i  learn a helpful thing fm one of  the students that i teach trappers education too.  Ive taught trappers ed  over 35 yrs   and learn something every year.  Im glad  this site is here so i can help  others  as  others have helped me.   I am but one quill on a porcupines back and not strong but with all  the other quills on the porkys back ( other trappers) together we are strong and learn together.  All i ask of learning trappers  is to help other learn the right way and respect the animals they are pursuing  and respect nature as this is where we aquire our strength and love  of the outdoors or mother earth.

The willingness to share information is also an invaluable aspect to this forum. I recall a time not so long ago that you couldn't buy a tip from the "old guy" down the road about trapping, and many were not too willing to part with their wisdom, either.
I could always count on rounding up some tips at the local conventions, and the Trapper & Predator Caller articles were a great source as well. Mostly though, I personally though slogged through miles of mud, dust, heat, cold, rain, sleet, snow, empty traps, non-target catches, etc. I've made a vow to myself that if I can help prevent ANYONE from having to learn the hard way on some of this stuff, I will do my part to pass on what I've acquired to other generations.
I even started writing a book complete with pictures, etc. have about 300 pages in it so far. I don't plan on selling it at all, but intent was that if something ever happened to me before I had a chance to teach my sons that they could at least have something to go off of. I am considering offering it free of charge in an electronic format to anyone who would be interested, when it is completed that is. My goal was to put this thing into a format like a CD or DVD, that could be popped into a computer drive and would be easy to navigate through. Still working on the program for it but looks like it would work well in that format. I loaded it out to my PDA and it cranks through the reader screens nicely in that setup as well.
My thanks also to each of you participants in this forum. I very much value your time, wisdom, and experiences that you share.
