Let's keep the thoughts on "real world" not a combat situation.
Most urban confrontations last seconds--not minutes.
Usually the first to shoot wins.
A shotgun in a car usually is not the first to shoot unless he is looking for the fight and in that case he will normally always win.
I keep a shotgun for home defense also--but trust to the first I can get my hands on.
Make sure as you can that the first one works--and quickly.

plus 1 rockbilly.  the more $ the beter chance of getting a better gun, but  not always.  some dont have the extra cash.  i know im trusting my life to it, but my life also has children grandchildren bills ect. for 3 yrs i carried a 4006 5 day a week.  for adout 6 yrs i carried a tok 24-7.  ill take the tok every time.  willaim i think your point is to make sure it always goes bang, to that i say amen.  $ dont make it better a 200/350 sks/ak is 100% better than eugene stoners toy at 1200 and up.
