Elk and Pronghorn hunt draws
« on: February 13, 2010, 05:53:38 PM »
The deadline for Elk and Pronghorn hunts was last week. Now the state sits on our money for months til we find out if we get drawn. Looked at the percentage that you would be a succesful applicant in the pronghorn draw. Kinda depressing, you have a 2 percent average of drawing a tag. Elk is somewhat better, especially for cow tags. The only good thing about the pronghorn is, it's harder to get a tag than to harvest a critter. That success goes from 55 to 80 percent depending on what unit. Arizona is getting to be a tough state to get drawn in. Even the desert units for deer oversubscibe for tags.

Idaho has an application period.  Can't put in for Antelope, deer, elk or bear until May 1. Then the deadline is June 5.   I usually put in for Antelope, but I hunt the rest during the regular season with over the counter tags.  Idaho is still pretty good that way.  You can still do a lot of hunting without a lot of special drawings....
