i have two 8mm mauser barrels that i had packed in grease since 1965 that are in excellent shape for age real nice bores they were from p.o. ackley's gun shop. my good friends dad was gun smith working there he made me a custom 270 for me he gave me the barrel he took off the action plus an extra one.i would like to know if these barrels are worth anything.

Military with steps or commercial? If commercial, are they take -offs or brand new.If commercial are they contoured and threaded and short chambered? lotsa varibles. If military take offs,I would suspect what ever the surplus market is selling them for, pretty much the same for commercial, with the exception of unknown barrel manufacturer, This would change somewhat if you could prove Ackley made the barrel. Basically you could get whatever the market will bear.

If the bores are good with no corrosion and there large ring 98k 8mm barrels, in the past i've seen these go between $40 to $75.  You could check out e-gun parts for an idea on the price of used military barrels.  I noticed a czech 8mm large ring barrel did install in my german 98k receiver and it headspaced right on the money.  This tells me your barrel may fit in any large ring 8mm.  The rear sights and handguard may differ between the other large rings.  I just put the czech handguard on my 98 stock.  CZY
