NEF Barrel Piece
« on: February 04, 2010, 04:42:17 AM »
Good  Morning Everyone,

Just a quick question, I just bought a Handi-Rifle and did the usual disassembly/cleaning. I was wondering the Piece on the bottom of the barrel (Lug ... Connects to receiver) has workmanship flaws on both sides (What I would call Deep scratches). Do any of you have the same issue. I always think of safety but I also like to use something Pleasing to the Eye. It locks-up and fucntions but Bottom Line shold I be concerned ? I'm thinking about sending it back to the factory to get refinished because If I spend the $$ ... I deserve a product without a Flaw.

You won't find too many Handi's without flaws. These ain't $700.00 guns.I doubt that the scratches will hurt any thing as far as safety goes. When it's assembled you cant see them.Shoot the gun and enjoy the thing. They good shooters and some are great shooters.Big bang for the buck.Slow

If it is not visible and does not affect functioning no worries. The recoil is back, not side to side, and if in the opening and closing it has not bound up or show high wearing spots on the sides there is no contact.

Also what you may be seeing is where the original lug was not welded straight and they use a angle grinder with a cut off wheel to remove to straighten i got a few like that won't effect function and probly straighter than some others being it had to be redone. Welcome to the Handi world now make sure you read the FAQ's here so you won't be surprised by some of your other finds and before you get the rust starting get some good oil on it.and oil often. Kurt

I'm going to try inserting a Picture saved on my PC so here it goes ... It's an attachement.  The Gouge/Scratch can be seen on the Barrel Lug.

A non issue.  forget about it.
Try to look unimportant.   Your enemy might be low on ammo.

Only Handi so far is a 375 JDJ.

Range Report:  150 rounds with no problems and I got a "Shooter". 50 Yards 1-1 1/2" with little effort and cheap Ammo.
I topped it with a Nikon Pro Staff 2-7 and added a Cheek Riser from  ATI to the ATI Collapsable Stock. That really Made a difference in the consistant cheek to stock fit ... I think they could be put on Factory NEF stocks with drilling a couple holes. Look at ATI site and check them out...
