Out of my 10" 300 Whisper barrel the Nosler 125 gr BT is the most accurate but in my tests on gallon milk jugs filled with water the Remington 125 gr PSP bullet seemed best.

Today I used the Remington load (going about 2000 fps) on a 2 yr old spike buck. Hit him tight behind the shoulder about 1/2 way up. Very little blood trail, bullet completely penetrated, left a nickel sized hole on exit. If I didn't see where he went down it would have been difficult to trail him. The shot was only 20-30 yds. He ended up about 100 yds away.

This was my first deer with the Whisper. I'll be trying to fill my antlerless tag using my 357 Max barrel.

When you say the 125 gr. Remington seemed best in your tests, what made it best? Did it penetrate more or give better expansion, retain more weight or what. I have not tried the Remington bullet in my whisper but I have thought about it, if not for anything else but cheaper practice. I have not shot anything but paper with mine yet.

Based on the damage it did and the reaction of the target. The Nosler bullet just seemed to punch a hole through and didn't even upset the jug. At least the Remington bullet made the jug jump and did quite a bit of damage. I shot each at 100 meters and 25 meters.

Thanks for the added info. I would have thought it would be the other way around. I may have to give those a try. I have some 150gr. Remington 30/30 bullets. Have you tried any of these on the milk jugs?

you guys might try 130gr hornady ssp(single shot bullet). very fragile in my 30-30AI. maybe too explosive if bone is struck. should be good at 300W velocities.

I've tested the Hornady SSP 130 gr and Remington RN 150 gr 30/30 bullet as well on the milk jugs. The Hornady was about the same as the Nosler 125 BT. The Remington 150 gr worked well even though MV was only 1800 fps. From an accuracy standpoint the Nosler 125 gr and Hornady 130 gr SSP were best, followed by the Remington 125gr, the Remington 150 RN was poorest accuracy. So I went with the Rem 125 as the best combination.
