How Is The .45 Colt Carbine?

I was looking at these today and at $260 I'm very tempted. I was wondering how they are performing for those that own one? Are they all on SB-2 frames?

They are on an SB2 frame, same as the 45-70 BC, mine shot 250gr jacketed using Ruger/TC data under 2" at 100yds at 1900fps, it now shoots 460S&W factory 200gr ammo at 2875fps after I rechambered it, get it Don, you'll like it, lil brother to your BC!!  ;D

Thanks guys! The .45 Colt has always been one of my favorite cartridges and at that sale price I couldn't pass it up. I ordered one this morning. Let's see now, two months and three new Handis? What does that average to in a year? Oh yeah a beating from the wife!!

Don: I bought one a couple of weeks ago at Sportsmans Warehouse for $220. Just got a jar of JB Bore paste to break in the barrel, and hope to shoot it Sunday. Very nice little package in a classic caliber that responds extremely well to handloading.

I'd grab that in a minute if I saw one for that price. I paid way more than that for mine and I'm happy just the same. It's currently the only deer rifle I own. Mine is plenty accurate for deer hunting and VERY easy to carry all day long.

Boy and I thought I got a good deal. Bud's has them going for $399 and they usually have pretty good prices. I ordered this through Davidson's Gallery of Guns who's running a sale that ends today. I have a lot of ammo for the .45 Colt from my Blackhawk. About 200 rounds of handloaded 225gr. semi-wadcutter type bullets, but I also have two boxes of Cor-Bon's 300gr. JHP +P. I also have about 50 empty cases, a box of Horn. 300gr. XTP and a box of Horn. 250gr. XTP bullets. I have to take a look and see what Cast Performance has available for the .45 Colt.
I'm thinking I might like to put a Williams FP receiver on this rifle. Anyone here try that in combination with the factory front sight?

A FP is a lot of sight for a carbine. I'm not sure you'd need that much precision with a 45LC, because range potential is limited. Maybe a much cheaper WGRS woud be a better choice.

Do you know if the WRGS has the same amount of adjustment as the FP or if it will work with the front sights height? I'm looking to get something with enough adjustment so there won't be a need to change the front sight, yet still give me the advantage of the receiver sights longer sight plane.

I just compared  the WGRS to my FP-TK which is the FP with target knobs, the WGRS has ~.200" elevation range adjustment from the bottom of the ramp to the top, the FP has over .500", the WGRS is higher at it's lowest point than the FP is at the bottom of it's range, so you'd need a taller front sight or a riser with the WGRS behind the factory sight, Doublebass73 did some work with his in the discussion below.

they are selling around here  for 349.00 and another place has them for 379.00 so atthose prices you better latch on to one if ya want it

Thanks for the info and the link. I bookmarked it for future reference. Peep sights are so much more old eye friendly so if I need to go to a higher front sight to make it work I will.

Blue, the WGRS has a lot less adjustment than the FP.  I have a WGRS on my Handi Hornet with the factory front sight. It looks right, but I've yet to test it.
