Ruger No.1 Standard Stainless in 30-06?

I ordered the above rifle a few days ago, My question is reading some of the post in the past they mention the need for a long eye relief scope, I have a Burris FFII with 3.5" eye relief is this enough? I have the rifle sold that this scope is on and can sell it with the gun if I need a longer eye relief model. Would 5" relief work you think? Thanks

I had a nikon buckmasters on mine for years--i would say it is about 3.5.  I switched to a scope with 5 inches and it made a world of difference.

My Leupold 2-7x33 specs 4.9"@2x and 3.8"2@7x. I have to lean in a little at 7x.

I don't think you will like 3.5".  I put a muzzleloading/shotgun scope on mine with 4.5" on the 1 power and somewhere in the ballpark of 3.5" on 4 power.  At 4x I'm fine on the bench, but I do need to crane forward some.  I keep it at 2x in the field, so I've made it work.  I'd struggle some if I really needed 4 power.  If you really want to keep the Burris you might consider one or two extended rings (they are heavy BTW).  I don't know how long the straight tube lengths are, so that's something you might want to measure and compare to the ring spacing. 

The VX-II 2-7x33 seems like it was made expressly for the #1.  My FIL has that setup and it's eye box is perfect.  I've toyed with the idea of the FX-II 2.5x20UL since I rarely use high magnification and it has exceptional eye relief - 4.9" if I'm remembering correctly.  If I can find some really light weight rings I might give the FX more serious consideration.

Same here, especially with a heavy hunting jacket on. And, I have the Ruger double offset rings that set the scope back an extra 1/2".  Ruger exchanged the factory original rings for free.  I only paid to send the unused originals back.  Not sure if they have them in stainless.

I use the Ruger offset rings on all my #1s, with a variety of different scopes and they all work great.
Yes they make them in stainless.

I wound up ordering the Omega Nikon with 5" relief it was perfect! The gun out of the box shot 1.5" groups with rem 150gr corelofts, a few 1.250 groups with Hornady super-performance 150gr SST but with the new Federal prem 110gr TTSX at almost 3500 fps it shot one .750 3shot group and 2 more about .875 and a 5 shot 1.250". The quality of this gun is in a class way above the single shots I currently have love it!

Must be a factor of different bodies, longer/shorter/taller/longer arms/ longer neck or???

Have owned RUGER #1s for years and never had a problem with scope mounting eye relief etc.

Have always used the standard RUGER factory rings.

All scopes have been Leupolds except for a Weaver, quickly replaced by a Leupold and an old 4x12 Redfield on my first #1B in 7mm mag.

Did recently get a #1-s in 45/70 and for that I made sure of plenty of eye relief.

#1s are typically not to be considered light rifles, at least not in the 1Bs etc. but this #1-s is quite light, especially considering the caliber and the action making possible some very heavy loads.

The barrel looks big, that is until you look down the tube which suddenly looks more like a shotgun barrel then rifle. BIG HOLE!

So with the bare rifle a light 7 1/4lbs, good eye relief IS important!
