It was my expirience that 1964-5 were banner years for all the brands. Fun cars and the highest quality. In '66-67 everything got bigger and quality started falling. In '71 they cut the compression and cams and quality continued to decline. I still like that 65Pontiac and this 65Ford Sprint.

I love the 65-67 GTO's They may not have been the fastest out of 'em all but to me they looked the best.
Grilles and body styling were incredible.  I think when I am fully retired I'm gonna buy me a 65-67 GTO and spend
retirement restoring it.

Did anyone ever know anyone who owned a 1969 Coronet R/T  like the one below? I'm sure they were around
But I never seen one up close , only in Pics.

My favorite is the one in my garage. It's a 1967 Plymouth GTX. Blue with a black interior. It has the 440 engine with a little "extra". Factory 4 speed car with a 3.55 Dana 60 rear. Ordered without power steering (couldn't lose any tiny bit of horsepower!) and a AM radio! I love to drive it around in the summer months!

Scootrd,
My cousin had a 68 coronet RT. I think only one of the changes between the 67 and 68 was the grill and headlights. It had the 440 magnum which was standard in the RT's. Never got to drive it but rode in it a few times. Boy was it a runner. I think a 426 hemi was an option. (would have loved to have a car with the 425HP hemi)  The Coronet RT was part of what Chrysler called the "scat pack" the others that made up the scat pack were, the Super Bee, Dart GTS, and the Charger RT. The Coronet's were sharp looking cars. I wish gas was cheap and they still made cars like this.

jdinil,
Aaaah! A Plymouth GTX, I'm envious. I used to own a 70 roadrunner, but getting married and kids, left no room for the roadrunner. I have always wanted to get another roadrunner or GTX. Maybe someday.  There was a guy that owned a 68 GTX near Beaver Falls Pa., and I would see it sitting out once in awhile when I worked in that area. It was dark blue, with chrome wheels. It was just a downright awesome looking car.

How about the one you let slip away?
Mine was a 65 IMPALA SS convertible numbers match with a factory 6 cylinder.
Didn't know what I had until after it was gone.
They only made 142 with a 6 cylinder.  :( :'(
The car is somewhere in NY the last I heard on the show circuit.
My dumbness!  :P

Mine was a 65 1/2 corvette, I was a young kid working in a boat Marina  pumping gas.  A fairly wealthy guy and his wife kinda be-friend-ed me cause I use to fill his boat tanks when he would pull up to the docks. He and his wife  were selling everything they owned. He was retiring and they had decided to move to Europe.  He offered to sell me first choice to buy his vette.

He wanted 6,200.00 for it (still remember the price distinctly ). I had saved 2.700.00 up .. I approached my Boss for an advance for the other 3500.00 and he said no "YOUNG KID FAST CAR" I'm doing you a favor by saying no so you don't get killed. This was the one and only time I then went and asked my father for money . He also said no for the same reason. long story short it finally sold, as a young guy I was heart broke. I still remember the color , deep maroon , Black leather interior. Man,  that was the one that got away for me. I ended up saving some more money and eventually bought a no frills Camaro for about 3,100.00, But that vette sure was the one I had my heart set on.

update - I went out on the net to see if I could locate a similar one to the one that got away. here it is ..
BTW on the ad where I found the PIC asking price is 58k. Wonder if my Father only knew what it would be worth today
if he would have floated me the cash? Probably not!  I can still here him saying "YOUNG KID FAST CAR"
Darn , looking at it all over again it's still one sweet ride.
