New 357 handi
« on: February 07, 2010, 03:09:05 PM »
Hello all.  I have ordered a 357 handi synthetic.  After a thorough cleaning before I shoot it, should I polish the barrel with jb or just shoot it and see how it does?   Not quite understanding the latch/latch shelf, could someone help me out on this one?   Jeff

The latch sheif is the angled plate just under the open camber,
THE LATCH IS THE flat peice down at the bottom of open action.
you want those dry, no oil or greese  on them when you shoot.
I am not to explain this. Hope you understand. Good shooting.
You'll enjoy the 357 , I do mine, I reamed to a maxie rigth after
I got it. Love it more now. Marv.

Thanks for the reply, Marv.  I am looking forward to loading for and shooting this gun.  I live on a hundred acres, and have some neighbors close by, so I was looking for a close range coyote and deer gun that wouldn't offend my neighbors.  I am now in the process of picking a scope for this one.  I have a few days before the gun arrives.  Thanks again.    Jeff in Texas

Take the barrel off it and scrub the chamber and bore real good. Make sure you get all the factory crud off the metal parts. Like Marv said, make sure you keep the shelf and latch dry. This helps the latch and shelf wear in properly with each other. I wouldn't worry about polishing the bore right away. Shoot it first and see how it shoots. It may shoot great or it may take a little break in before it shoots well. Each barrel is different so the only way to find out is to shoot it. I think you'll find that it shoots pretty good as is. ;)
I had a 357 mag and it shot great. ;D

For as scopes for 357 mag or Maxie, I have a simmons 4X prodiamond shotgun scope on mine.
I love it. You can get them from Mid South for about $60 plus shipping. Marv.

Thanks for the help, guys. I had handies several years ago, but didn't have the support available on this forum.  Couldn't get them to shoot good, and sold them.  Too soon old and too late smart!            Thanks again.       Jeff in San Antonio

Just shoot it.  Bores don't need polishing.
