Remington 700 SPS
« on: February 21, 2012, 01:12:13 PM »
I was looking at this gun up close, it has a black coated bolt. Does anyone know if this wears or gets scuffed up as it is cycled back and forth. Does anyone own one that may know.

I have a few.  Over the years the black will wear away at a few contact points on the lugs.  No problem.  Wouldn't give it any thought.

I just got one that has been shot 250 times, and shows no wear to the finish at all.
I carry a single shot.
'cause it only takes one shot.

My 308 probably has about 1000 rounds downrange and shows no wear on the finish. Great rifle.

My o6 has at least 500 rounds through it and it still looks good.

I have a few Rem 700's at the shop with about 350,000 rounds through through the receivers and some times depending on the the bolt lapping... the handle will fall off before that wears and if it does wear it will wear start to rub on the top left of the receiver from not pulling the bolt straight back.

I have one in 300 Ultra Mag that still looks good as new. When I got it though it had less than a half a box through it someone was a bit recoil sensitive to my benefit. I got a steal on it $359 out the door.
