.204 factory Ammo
« on: February 09, 2010, 05:25:01 AM »
What are you .204 shooters using for factory ammo?  And is the factory ammo grouping good? Are both the Bull barrels and fluted barrels shooting good?  Is one better than the other?  I have a 223 that I use for nite hunting predators and shooting G-Hogs, but I am thinking about trying out the .204.  I just hear so many good things about this round.
It's all a hot mess...........

Mine didn't like any factory ammo very much, 1½" groups at best, I finally got it to shoot under 1" with 40gr Vmax and max loads of BL-C2, but in general the lighter .204" bullets will shoot best due to the 1:12" twist, so I'd stick with the 32-34gr factory ammo.

I am shooting Hornady 32gr v-max and getting 3/4 MOA.  My .204 does not like the 40gr as Quick says stay with the little pill.  I have had limited success with the Remington ammo but the Hornady has been consistant.

The HSM 32 gr. shoot great in a Remington XR 700 for me.  I mean like this:

I have had several 204 Handis in both 22" & 24".
At the present time I have 3.
2 standard barrels and 1 heavy barrel.
All shot very well with factory 32gr V-Max ammo.
The 22" barrels seem to shoot better than the 24" ones I had.
My best one is a 22" barrel that will shot 5 32gr V-Max bullets under a nickle with 3 under a dime almost anytime.
This barrel also likes the factory Hornaday 45gr SPs.
About the same accuracy, just about 1.5" higher.
