best time of day for calling and another qu

I get me best results during the early morning and late afternoon.  Of course night is lways good(legal out here).  Now as far as calling while deer hunting, MY luck would be just as soon as I cut loose with a call the granddaddy of all bucks would be just showing up and all I would see is his south self going thru the brush as he headed north.  Although I did have a beautiful 3x4 Blacktail buck come in one time.  Almost jumped into our laps.  Lawdog

early morning and late afternoon are usualy good times but animals are just like fish. they feed according to the so-luner tables. today it may be from 9-11 and tomorrow it could be 11-1:00.
as far as deer i have called in several deer as they are curious. but i think horn rattling works best for them. do you really think everytime a hawk catches a rabbit and is eating him alive the deer head to the next county.

Short answers...

For the most part you can use the same call, but its how you use/blow it.   Just pick a call for prey found in the area you'll be hunting - cottontail, jackrabbit, etc - start learning.

Long answers...

Deer come to a distress call out of curiosity - but personally, I wouldn't mix hunting on a deer stand.    Most mouth calls (distress and howlers) can also do a pretty good fawn/doe bleat BTW.

Try an AP-6 for a great commercial call to start with pilgrim.
