The lighter bullet would probably help more than anything. Most data I have seen shows a very small increase (about 100fps I think) by using the third pellet with the same bullet. There is just not enough barrel to burn the powder. If you are already shooting 240 gr bullets I would not think you would want to go much lighter than that though.

I'm limiting myself to 100gr. of loose Triple 7. 2" groups at 100 yards using a 300gr. XTP in a sabot. I have a box of Pyrodex Pellets and tried that crazy 3 pellet thing. HANG ON! The forend of the gun literally jumped out of my hand. WOW. I doubt that the extra gained over the 2 pellets is worth the recoil - at least for me.

I shot .75 in. groups with three 50 grain pellets and 295 grain Powerbelt aerotips. Most were about 1" though. I switched to the 348 grain aerotips for the elk hunt and they were consistently 1.5" groups @ 100 yards. You do need to hang on to the Encore with the 150 grain load as I found out the hard way(nice scope crescent in my forehead

A tip that I discovered with my Encore. Wear shooting glasses, the plastic wrap arounds. If the scope does try to kiss you're eyebrow most of the impact is spread over a wide area instead of cutting into your flesh. I'm glad I was wearing mine the last time I was out at the range.

I found that I get better groups with two pellets of pyrodex. I haven't tried the 777 yet, but I am leary about shooting three pellets of anything. I tend to shoot a lot more consistantly with the 250 grain Barnes X and 100 grains of pyrodex.
I am going to try the new tough dead center bullets early next year. They perform very well on Elk at distance and close range from the Video I saw.

I shot my 209x50 all season last year using 120gr TripleSeven loose powder under a 245gr Powerbelt aerotip bullet. What a great combo!

I got consistent groups under 1.7 inches and every cold shot (first of the day) went within one inch of point-of-aim on a 100-yard target -that was a 1-inch dot pasted exactly 3.5 inches above the bullseye).

Using 110 gr loose T7 I got under 2" groups on the same setup.

Now they have brought out the pellets, and I either have to settle for two pellets or the full boat of 150 grains, and I realy don't see the point. I don't need a magnum load for whitetails, and the recoil is prohibitive for my 1xx-pounds and a pinned shoulder.

Dontcha wish TripleSeven came in 30- or 60 gr pellets???

It does not bother me that they are not made in 30 or 60 gr. pellets. I am back to shooting loose powder. Shot the pellets for a couple of years but I shoot my ML all year long and not just for hunting season. The pellets are to expensive for me to shoot many of. 50 shots with 100 pellets for $25 or $20 for 80 shots with loose. I got the powder measure back out. I feel the same way about Powerbelts, they load easy but are rather pricey for my cheap taste.
