Ordered Encore pistol frame today. Barrel?
« on: February 15, 2010, 06:01:01 PM »
I sold my first 15" 308 encore pistol years back when I was short on money and never got back into it. I was in town today and said the hell with it and ordered a encore stainless pistol frame. I did take a couple of muleys with that 308 using 150's but it does recoil a little more than I like. The 15" barrel is ok but I would like to go shorter with something like 12" to 14" with a standard taper. Maybe something in 243win or 260rem. Some shots could reach as far as 250 yards but I try to get closer when I can. I have been a handgun hunter for years using 44mags but would like to extend my range some. So for the guy's that have had the 243win or 260rem in pistol length how do you like them? I thought maybe I could go back to the 308 or try the 7mm-08 and load them down to my comfort zone and then if I needed more power I could load them back up easy enough. What say you?

You might try a brake.

Well I think I am going to go with a 15" 243win barrel because TC has a $50 mail in rebate on new barrels between Feb 1 and May 31 2010. I also have a tikka t3 in 243 so I have everything I need to reload for it. Might make it a stainless pro hunter barrel for the fluting. I plan on ordering from eabco.com. Anyone have opinions on this place?

Thanks again

You might try a brake.

I agree with Grumulkin, if you're not against brakes, they can help a lot.  Here's a pic of my .338R CE barrel w/ brake and my .308 w/o. I will be putting the same brake on my 16-1/4" .308 barrel, not because it's uncomfortable to shoot, but because I want to use it on the bench for extended periods.

By the way, this brake is extremly effective, turned the .338 R CE into a pussy cat.
