reloads
« on: November 25, 2007, 10:27:30 AM »
I know there is some debate about reloading .40SW for Glocks due to the unsupported chamber.  I also know a lot of people do it without problems.  What would be a very conservative plinker load, easier on the pressure and less likely to cause problems?  I'm debating trying some but have no interest in pushing any limits, I just want something safe and easy to get trigger time with.

Andy,
Any starting load you find in a reputable reloading manual will be fine. I use Bullseye and Unique powders for my IDPA loads in 9mm/.40/.45 under 124/175/200 gr cast bullets. I would follow Glock's recommendation to use only jacketed bullets in their barrels. My Glocks have aftermarket barrels to facilitate lead reloads. For load data using these powders go to:

The FIRST thing I'm going to say is= CHECK RELOADING MANUALS FIRST!!!!

That being said, my favorite target loads are 5.0gr. 231 with 155gr. bullets! Relatively light recoil with pretty good accuracy. YMMV   8)

Reloading is a personal choice.  Just because it is a Glock does not mean it can not fire reloads as long as they are safe.

All semi-auto bbls have a lack of support.  It just depends on how much.

A Glock 40 has the least amount of support of any Glock.  To have a long steady diet of reloads for a forty Glock keep things at the sane lvl.  No need to hot rod any reload. No need to hot rod any reload - yes I said it twice ;-)  If you do on a forty Glock the brass will get weak and bad things can happen.  That is the case with any reload though.  Forty Glocks are just less forgiving with a factory bbl.

Yes I reload for the forty and fire the loads out of a Glock with a factory bbl.  Just keep it sane.  Happy reloading.
