What to do now?
« on: February 12, 2010, 04:32:53 PM »
Well the hunting seasons are pretty much done and I am not into icefishing. I have been cleaning and working on some of my guns, changing some stocks, putting on little accessories, fiddling with scopes that kind of stuff. Probably will do some loading and get the shooting boxes restocked. Maybe get to shoot a new rifle that I am having built, hopefully soon. How about you fellow Hoosier hunters out there? What is going on?

Where do I start........Bottom line, I wish I had time to even breathe. I haven't loaded a cartridge in over a month. I am in charge of 3 sections of one directorate and the platoon sergeant for that entire directorate. I go to meetings to discuss future meetings. I don't know what to do when I even get time to do it. My wife and child will hardly recognize me when I get back. Time is what I need.... :)  ;) ;D

Thanks, Dinny

Dinny, I think you should march right in and tell your boss you want some time off. They'd be reasonable about it. :D

Yes we need reports on the new gun ;)

Dinny, Meeting about meetings? that makes you a community organizer, heck you may become a president :D

Myself, well I work outside. So I am not really enthused about outdoor activities when the cold sets in. We have went out and tried some coyote hunting, but no luck. I am working on a couple stock projects. Turning an old handi into a muzzle loader look a like. I am making the forend long and adding a fake rod to it. Adding some brass for looks. The stock started out a pallet wood non Monte Carlo pistol grip. Will try to get some Pict's.

OK the new rifle comes courtesey of our new sponsor, fireball168 aka Brian at 358 BFG. I had wanted to rechamber a handi rifle to this round and asked his advice about this project. He quickly steered me in the right direction and as I am familar with Savage rifles I opted to rebarrel a WSM to .358 BFG. Brian put me on to Buds gunshop and I was able to purchase a new savage in 7mm wsm for the donor action. I went ahead and purchased a set of dies and some formed brass from him. He even sent me a dummy cartridge to check feeding in my action. I purchased Leupold quick detachable extension rings and QD bases for my savage. I scrounged up a 3.5X10 Leupold variable.  Brian recommended McGowen barrels and I ordered a 24 inch, magnum contour, stainless barrel. Then the waiting began. He emailed me this week and told me the barrel had been shipped and would notify me when he sent it to my gunsmith. The pins and needles have become more intense. I am hoping to be able to get a 225 Accubond out of the muzzle at 2500 to 2600 f/s. With my shooting ability, this would make about a 300 yard deer gun. I hunt agriculture fields and 300 yards is doable. This rifle will look like a factory stock Savage but it is all in the barrel baby! Much shooting is anticipated!

Sounds quite familiar.  Wife and I call it "camping" if they don't have room service.

I am thinking you guys would not like camping with me ;D I do cheat some times and take a little fan and a radio. Outside of that we take a tent air mattress and cooler.

Once you've done it out of necessity, some of the luster dulls a bit.  ::) Then once you've gone to the other side, you find it hard to return unless it again becomes a necessity.   :o   If it does have to be that way again some day, we've not forgotten how.  ;)

BTW, as to what I'm doing now.  I'm headed back out to plow out the drive yet again.  I would love to get some more reloading done but like others here, life just keeps gettin in the way. ???
