FN 57 for hunting?
« on: February 06, 2010, 05:51:17 PM »
I know very little about the FN 57, but find it very intriguing.  How would a FN 57 pistol do for deer hunting out to 75 yards on small to medium size deer?

thank you,
300

Too small for deer.  You have less energy than a 223, which is not well suited for deer anyway. Plus it's in a pistol, meaning you better be D@@n good, or your just going to wound medium sized game. It may be a fun small game gun. I actually carry mine as a backup to my 223 when I coyote hunt.

I love my 5.7, but I would never take it into the woods and expect to drag home a deer.

And people that would say that a 22 mag makes a good deer rifle, are also using just that ---A RIFLE.

300 - Nope, I'm with gbjeep.  I think the 5.7 is capable of taking small to medium sized game up to coyote but I don't think it has enough 'stuff' for Whitetail.  That being said however, it was designed for 'people' uses and I suppose that if it would do 'the job' on a 200+ lb human it should work on Bambi, but I'm wouldn't try it.  I think the bore is too small and the bullet too light.  I don't even advocate the 223 for Whitetail, unless they are the smaller ones.  jmtcw.

Ask yourself, would you feel comfortable hunting deer with a .22 Mag?
