Hey guys, Not meaning to be all contradictin here but this is the same charts as the earlier post. Also I  was looking at the 100 speed & energy levels and something didn't seem right so I dug up some 22 mag charts from CCI and they show a 40gr bullet moving faster at 100 yards than this chart shows the 30gr +V. This throws the energy off as well. Reason I noticed is, all the 22mag data I found show the heavier bullets to to give more foot pounds of energy at 100yds than lighter bullets even tho they started out slower.

Thanks for the heads up Kurt!! This is a different chart for the lighter supposidly faster bullet. I wanted Stuporman to use a 30 grain bullet +V instead of the 40  because  I thought would be closer to the 17 and even out the chart or so I thought.  Math was not my subject in school wish we had computers then :)  Yea I know a slide rule, never could figure that out either  anyway maybe you and Stuporman can figure out the discrepancy. please keep us posted on any of this if you have new info and again I thank stuporman for the charts in the first place but maybe they changed the info as they have been known to do that. so between the both of you we can find out the difference. I am sure Stuporman will let us know where he got his figures and Stuperman do not get me wrong as I said I am no math wiz and I am not saying you made a mistake chances are maybe it goes like this: I just  wonder if CCI has changed their charts and you guys are looking at 2 different charts which would explain the difference like a older one and a newer one. Thanks Jim

I just looked up some data at Remington and they have the 22mag with about 30 ft lbs more energy than the 17 at 100 yards. That was with a 33gr vmax. Which has pretty good speed retention in comparison to other 22 rimfire stuff. On the other hand CCI had a little less 100yd energy for the 30gr. I sometimes wonder how much of this is computer (or other) extrapolation and not real world thump. Its the 100yd energy I want cause I just got a 22 mag for coyote in places that shorter shots are fairly common and I don't want the report ta put all them on the run (or in the hole) for the next three miles. I still think if they put a little sturdier 30 or 35gr bullet in the 17 they would have a good coyote gun. I wish I knew someone with a 17. I'd like to do a wet newspaper test. Have you all read Varmint Als test of the 17?  link below. It's great,! he even shoots through ten prickly pear pads stacked up. So far from what the 17 is loaded with, it is a good round for small, vermin around farms or something where you don't want any stray bullets.

Darn Kurt, I thought I was up late :-D  :)     I do not think you could get a 17 bullet that heavy because I think it would be two long for the bore size and tumble.  I may be wrong on this but I think it makes sense also the 17 is faster than the 22 mag due to the ligher bullet if they made a 30 or 35 grain bullet wht would it accomplish as the 22 mag already has that covered and a heavier bullet in the 17 would just slow it to 22 mag velocities. Got my info from a ballistics website...

Got this from a NRA sponsored (unofficially) website.

22 WMR Maxi-Mag +V HP 0059
 30 gr
 2200 / 322
 1750 / 203
 1373 / 127

I use standard mass/vel/friction physics tables to plot the numbers in excel, and then plot them.

I also am running out of hosting space, so if you dont catch these charts in 1 week or less, I may have changed the data and titles to something else.

Make sure the request is "Fresh"!  hahaha

Forgot to mention the basic rules of physics as applies to manufacturers website info:

Physics doesn't change...Manufacturer data on websites was typed in by a PR dept or Graphic artist.

The decceleration of a bullet when presented with air friction at a certain temperature is almost a constant.

I may be wrong about the drag coeefficient of a particular bullet.  The shape of the nose affects the deceleration enough to notice.  A roundnose flies better than a HP, for example, and will have more vel at 100 yards.  Might account for the differences you saw, or just a typo!
