I had one of the GA guns, a black Combatmaster.  It was pretty, but I ended up selling it.  Much tighter than the older handmade Detonics pistols.

I think there are NOT any new ones. I am pretty sure they went out of business years ago.

they were back in bussiness last year with new owners. i never heard how it went. I had one about 5 years ago. It was a good reliable gun but old school in that it was heavy and had lots of sharp edges and wasnt that accurate. I think something like a 3 inch kimber cdp would hands down be a better ccw gun.

Thanks folks...I recieved an add from some company advertizing them at $695...out of the blue actually...and got to wondering.  I have a number of 1911's but there's always room for one more!!

I had a Detonics MK V back in the early 80's...............Nice looking gun, with a very poor rear sight design, NOT reliable as a Self Defense CCW, and totally "Out In The Weeds" as far as accuracy goes........Even the gun itself, didn't know where the next shot was going!!.........probably the loosest 1911 I've ever handled, and it still stovepiped frequently..
I sold that Detonics and bought a "donar" gun, to build a Colt Officers Model the way I wanted it...... and I've never looked back at any Detonics!.........Now I have a comparable carry gun as far as size and weight, but its accurate at 20 yards............Detonics??........Neat conversation piece, but thats where all the hype  ends........it can't deliver................

Hey Tom...I had just the opposite experience.  I bought mine in, I think 1986.  It was very accurate, the sights were serviceable and I didn't have many problems with it at all....I hated the weight....carried like the chunk of steel that it was.  It's long gone now......

drdougrx,

Hey, I'm glad you had a better experience with Detonics. The sale of my Detonics financed the way into a very nice custom Colt Officers Model.....Slide/Frame/Barrel fit reset by JoJo's Gunworks in Southington CT...Big Horn Sheep Grips,Wilson Beaver Tail, Colt Ambi safeties, Performance hammer, sear and trigger, resulting in a crisp 3.7 LB trigger, and Low mounted De-Horned Bomar sights......... Yeah, I like Bomars, even on a carry gun,  and a high polish Full Dome Blue finish, like the older Pythons......As I said, After building this Colt, I never looked back.............As for you,.........I also know what its like to sell a gun you liked, and then regret the sale...... I've done that too,  more times than I care to remember........It seems some lessons are hard learned, huh?

Good Shootin'

I wish I could post a pic for you, but my Digital camera is having problems, and I need to pack it up and send it out for repair.............If there is such a thing anymore.......
I'll have to search my files on the weekend..........maybe I have a pic, not sure if I ever took one..............
If I can find a pic, I'll post it if I can then learn the process....if not,, I can mail it to you.

By the way..NICE looking Boar in your Avatar......... I took one in Homer NY at Big Boar Lodge some years ago. with my Bow.......I didn't get it mounted,as the tusks were not what I thought they should be.........I didn't know they could be "enhanced' by the taxidermist!.............I don't think my Boar was as large as yours, but the meat tasted great though....

No prob on the photo Tom...I'd just get another camera...disposable world, cost you as much to repair as buy new!

The Boar in the avatar was from Old Stone Fence in Rennselier Falls, NY...a heck of a nice one and super tusks...that my FORMER taxidermist discarded even though I told him not to!!!  Funny story, the butcher came to pick it up, it had been dressed, and the preserve owner said, yep, he'll go 400lbs....I said no...maybe 350 and the butcher rolled his eyes and said wanna bet????   So we each threw in $5 and gave ourselves 10lbs of wiggle room...the butcher said 310 .... seems the butcher knew what he was talking about because it weighed 317 dressed, so about 350 live weight (30ish pounds of innards).

And yes....you can enhance tusks as much as you like and they actually look authentic providing your taxi has a clue as to HOW boar tusks are SUPPOSED to look.  Haven't been to BBL in long while...was kinda upset with Mark Clark about a fallow that I paid up front for and was shot before I got there.  Now I go to Wild Hill in VT....animal quality is very, very good if you go early enough and stay off the trigger.......
