Have any of you guys had any experience with the Remington .54 caliber rifle that is built on the 700 action?  I know it is everything but a classic, but it looks like it would be fun to play with........thanks for your opinion.

My opinion is, if you want a muzzle loader, shoot a muzzle loader. If you want a 700 then buy one in .308.

I was handling one at the store, it looked pretty cool to me.
Then I read Randy's review, he calls it a real p.o.s.
Aim small don't miss.

I already have a traditional style muzzle loader, and several 700's - yes, one already in .308..........I was just looking, thanks for such "professional" input.

There was a guy with one at the range yesterday, I think his was a 50 cal.  though. He was shooting sabot bullets and 150 grains of pyrodex pellets. It was a nice looking rifle, and with that kind of load very powerful, but he didnt out shoot my T/C hawken 54 cal at 100 yards. Im shooting about 3 in. group at that range, his was twice that. Thats not saying his rifle isnt accurate though, maybe he just isnt used to shooting with open sights, or maybe he doesnt have that sweet load that his rifle likes yet. Like with everything, practice makes perfect.

I think there were several of the .54s in the 700ml that had extreme problems.  My .50 was a good rifle but did not feature the same poor QC represented by the two specimens Randy got.  Cleaning the bolt on a Remington is something of a pain in the rear.
WHUT?

Most of the reports I have heard or read on the 700 have not been very positive.

a friend of mine has a 50 cal and he likes it or so he says. it is just a hunting gun  but when I look at ti and compare it to my knight lk93. the knight is made a lot better. he had converted it to use musket caps in place of the normal #11. when he cleans it is it a pain in the bottom and takes like an hour as where my knight only takes about 15 minuets. then the ram rod attachments Remington has pit out are just junk they all snap off at the treads or don't work well

I tried out a .50 rem last year and and was very shocked at the over all poor quality of this rifle for the price they were asking.Very poor fit of the bolt/firing mechinism ,parkerized finish was flaking of the trigger guard.I personaly would not buy a new ML with a bolt style action.Takes away to much barrel lenght, harder to clean,209 blowback and shrapnel, short distance between front and rear sight. But I know a few guy's that like their's very much. :bye:

The two I tested were complete disasters.

Good on cold winter evenings, perhaps, like this hot little number:
