I don't think so. The republicans messed up so badly virtually anyone would make them look better. Keep in mind that the republicans are what triggered the rush to the left, high spending, etc.

Probably no more so than Harry S. Truman, Jack Kennedy, Lyndon Johnson, Jimma Carter, or Bubba Clinton.  It always works the same way; the Dumbycrats get in because the voters get tired of the Republicans and then they quickly figure out that the Dumbycrats aren't the answer either.  I do agree, though that this halfrican iteration is a whole nother kind of low standard.  If he somehow gets us to swerve back out of the whacko ditch we're in and back onto anything that's close to the road, then maybe he (Obama) will have served a purpose.

If high spending was what turned folks away from the Republicans, then how does one rationalize what has occurred in this past year?

I don't know if the dumb-o-crats get in because of the rep's . seems more the dunb-o-crats promise the world , everything for everybody . Then the voters realize who will pay for it and go back to the rep's . Seems the young vote dumb-o-crat and the old vote rep. Sorta if you have nothing vote dumb-o-crat and if you stand to lose what you have vote rep. Then we need to factor in the death rate of the older voter vs. the birth rate of the dumb-o-crat voter . I'm really confused here  ???. I say lets all vote 3rd party and start over ! ;)

I single out Truman has being under rated as a president. He really did some important and courageous things. One of them was that the prevailing attitude in Washington toward the end of WWII was that the Russians were our allies. After Truman figured out that Russia was an enemy he took wise and courageous steps to defend against that threat. He deserves a lot of credit for that.

I see Kennedy has being more of an inspiring figure than anything else. The nation elected its youngest president ever after having elected its oldest president ever. Then he was a martyr.

Johnson tried to scale his early work in Texas to the nation and it didn't work. He didn't understand the mood of the country.

Carter was an honest to goodness disaster. Totally incompetent in all the important areas. Still fondly remembered, however, by many environmentalists who work for the government.

Clinton. I can't think of any real accomplishments for the man. It seemed like he just served 8 years and meandered through it all.  I really would like to see a list of his accomplishments that actually mattered. I believe he'll be remembered in history as having been characterized by an adminstration of continual scandal.

In a round about way, yes. I honestly believe that the republican party, thru McCain inder the bus. The powers to be, that are the behind the curtain, knew that there was no way McCain could ever win. They gave McCain a piece of history, and said thanks. Figuring that this country in 3-4 years would see what kind of train wreck the big O would get us in, and the population would swing the other way.
IF, this country make it to the fall of '11, the republicans can run a circus clown and win. The thing, I belive we have to do, is get the republican party to swing much more conservative. The hell with that moderate crap. It got us G.W., and then it gave us 'O.  gypsyman

I think Hil was more hated. Anti Clinton sentiment was very high then. At a low simmer now.

In theory conservatives should win in the long run because the liberals kill their young

That is exactly why I believe Republicans should rethink their antiabortion agenda.

Interesting thread. Seems that had there been no Wars the economy may have faltered but it would not have been the recession that it became. How long can the sheeple read/see that the wars and bush are evil and not go along with the flow. Who likes war anyway, nevermind that they attacked us, wejust cant be bothered with the ugliness, we are civilized after all. How dare the repubnics spend us into a deficiet to defend the country. Bush sdudda just made a speech
and went back to the white house and put his feet up and did squat. He certainly would not have been crucified for doing that !  ::)

Aint it odd that the muslim that got elected has just ramped up the war and is bragging thru his VP about how well they are proscecuting it. Peacenik he aint it seems!

The sheeple would have voted for anyone that came along and promised a "chicken in every pot" especially if it was paid for by the rich and of course the unions love the fact that they would have someone that was willing to sell out the capitalist way of life to make their lives better and give them more power, all for the price of their future votes.
