H&R Shikari rifle
« on: February 15, 2010, 05:00:27 PM »
I was looking at a H&R Shikari model 155 rifle in 44mag. anybody know anything about these? it's sorta neat but I don't remember ever seeing one till now. it has a cleaning rod under the barrel and it looks like a black powder rifle, it's something different and I like different... ;D

I had one years ago and it wasnt the prettiest girl at the dance but sure was sweet, shouldve never sold it. I shot everything from round balls (.440, .452 sized in a .429 die) with light Unique loads thru 300gr JSP and it did it all. I didnt use the rod much, but it was there if needed.
I say go for it!

Don't know about the 44, but my 45-70 sure is fun.  I like it so well, I kept it and sold the BC.  Mine has been drilled and tapped for a scope, don't know if it was factory or not, but it a deer hammer and lots of fun  with trapdoor loads.  I have read that the underlugs on the old Shikari rifles were silver soldered on the barrell, not welded.  This limits them to trapdoor level loads.  They look kind of funky, but shoot great.
