western washington waterfowl
« on: September 13, 2009, 10:50:48 AM »
Hey all,
I'm new to the Tacoma area and I'm looking for some places to hunt waterfowl this coming season. I'm from the spokane area and I was wondering if anyone knows of some local areas open to public or whatever for some duck or goose hunting. I'm also looking for tips on hunting birds on this side of the state, too.

Thanks,
  -Darrell-

if your in the army there is some good hunting right on ft lewis.  if your not in the army check with nw adventures at the base to access the base for hunting.   get a copy of delormes atlas and gazateer, it has most of the public hunting areas.  if you have a boat mc allister creek can be good durring the week, access at luht beach.

If your comming from Spokane, check out Lake roosevelt, I used to deer hunt up on Mt Bisby, over looked lake roosevelt, always tons of birds in there.  Also, the pot-holes are legendary, Lake moses ect....  Out far west, the hood canal is great for your designer birds, old-squaw and harlequin, plenty of scoters also.  Even farther out west, in Ocean shores, theres an awesome early goose area, look up the Ocean Shores airport, its just a tiny, cesna, one-strip puddle jumper airport but the geese are thick in there for the early season with plenty of camp grounds all around to stay at.  Not too many people know about this place or go there.  The few times I went, we never saw another party out there.  All routes are nicely marked for hunters to go to and from through the airport.  The airport is just a shack, some hangers, and a runway.  Theres lots of places, but I never found a major flyway or anything, it was either completly bust or a quick limmit, one extreme to another, but many places being close together, if one wasn't producing, we'd go to another really quick.
