I see most people using a cast iron pot to melt dirty lead in to clean it. Would there be any issues with using a stainless steel pot? Thanks, Charlie

I don't think there are any issues, but cast iron tends to "hold the heat" better, thus allowing you to burn less propane to keep it hot.
I use an old stainless boiler to melt mine.

Stainless will be ok. However don't use aluminum. They can fail if the temperatures get too high.

I use an old cast iron pot my mom found in a yard sale for little or nothing. It was pretty burned out with lots of pitting. I powerbrushed it and it works fine and cheap.

I used to use a cast pot and it melted tons of lead (and i really mean tons) without problems. I think it was greaybeard that told me his cracked because of heat. I didnt put to much store in it but when i had my barn fire i recovered my cast pot in 4 pieces. I know thats an extream situation but it did show me that there is a possiblity of one cracking.
