Couple of Quick Questions
« on: February 26, 2010, 06:11:50 AM »
First, both of my two handi rifles stick cases (even factory ammo) and I heard a rumor that the new barrels have extractors instead of the old spring ejectors.  Any truth to that?  Because I think I'd be willing to just get new barrels instead of messing with these any more.

Second, I used to hang out on the old Marlin handi rifle forum way back in the day, is this where you all went after it got shut down?

Welcome! Yes on both questions, all centerfire rifles are extractors now, have been for a few years. Ejectors can be made to be more effective with very little work, that info is in the FAQs and Help sticky, a great place to spend lots of time reading.  ;)

That's great news!  A few years ago I lost a nice deer due to a stuck case.

About ten minutes before I had shot a coyote that ran past me, and the case stuck.  Then, wouldn't you just know it but a buck walked out and spent ten minutes walking around right in the open while I tried to find something to drop down the barrel.

For emergencies, try Fred's chamber notch so you can use the tip of your pocket knife to remove the spent case. Or just be done with the ejector and convert it to a factory extractor as shown in the FAQs.  ;)

FWIW, carry a bullet the 'next size' down (smaller cal.) as heavy as you can get. Often by dropping this down the muzzle it will overcome the reluctant case and pop it out into your hand.

I just keep a section of a cleaning rod with me now.  I get a lot of weird looks at the range though...
