GP100 Problem
« on: June 02, 2010, 03:32:57 PM »
Hopefully I can describe this enough to get pointed in the right direction to go.

The DA trigger on my GP100 "sticks" about 3/16" into the trigger pull. It's not a rough machined parts sticky, its something is catching badly sticking. I took the thing completely apart to check every piece. Nothing looked out of the ordinary. During reassembly the pull was smooth up until you put pressure on the hammer. Once you do it catches until you apply enough force to the trigger & it "breaks" and continues thru the trigger pull.

1. Is this fixable myself? I'm figuring no, but I'll take suggestions if it is.
2. Should I send it to ruger or can a local gunsmith easily correct this problem?

Thanks for your input.

I've owned my GP100(stainless) for over 20 years. I have never liked the double action from day one. I shoot it single action 99.9% of the time for that reason. Most all my shooting can be done in the single action mode.

Without seeing it, it is difficult to diagnose, but it sounds like a timing issue: the cylinder locking bolt is a little late in being withdrawn. This may be a case for letting the factory take care of it for you. It is probably beyond the ability of most kitchen table gunsmiths.

I've had that happen in my gp100 and Sp101.
If I try to cycle the revolver too fast and don't
carry thru they lock up until one releases the trigger a bit.
