Just put a red dot scope on my 10-22

What a hoot these things are !! You put that red dot on a black bull,you ain't gonna miss !!
Bought a used one form a member here,and it's sooo much fun.
Gonna upgrade to one with multiple reticles next time around.

  What size is the dot on yours? I had one on my 22 and thought the dot was to big for target work. That was many years ago and i imigaine things have changed since then. I do have one on my slug shotgun. I love the thing on there.

take a stock 10/22....add a volquartzen hammer and a red dot on it....you won't believe how fast you can acquire and hit targets

I had a Tru-glo red dot site on my 10/22 since 2008, removed it last week.  Initially I  liked the difference compared to a scope, but there were problems.  The dot was hard to see in normal sunlight, had to turn the knob near to full power, and it would hide much of the target at 100 yards.  I had to use binoculars to see where I was hitting after shooting 1-2 rounds.  It did not hold its point of aim very well either, had to adjust it every other trip to the range.

I think these have their place for low light hunting, but I put a 3 X 9 scope on it last week and am waiting to get to the range for site in.  As a test, I left the thing on for 2 days, this is with the battery that came with it and several days of use at the range already in it's history, still works fine, so the battery is not drained that fast.  I contacted the maker and they told me the batteries last quite awhile in their testing.  I also carried a spare battery just in case.  Now I just gotta get rid of it.

Still, it was a different experience in sighting equipment.

best thing to do is to have 2 rifles. one with a red dot and the other with a scope. that's how we run the 10/22's

Funny that you should mention that as my other 10/22 is the Ruger factory fancy model with the bull barrel and laminate stock, I put a nice Nikon 3 X 9 scope on it when I bought it.  My other 10/22 that had the Red Dot is staying with the light sporter barrel due to it being lighter, now both are scoped.

You need at least three 10/22's. Scope, Red dot and iron sights plus a couple of Browning .22 auto rifles for plinking with irons sights.

I put a BSA Red Dot on my Ruger Mark I auto pistol.  I wasn't sure about these things and didn't want to spend a whole lot of money on something I may have ended up not liking.  As it turned out I loved it.  I didn't realize how well you could shoot with these things once they are sighted in properly.  My rig is certainly accurate enough for squirrel hunting.  About the only thing I have trouble with is that you have to center the dot in order to hit what you're aiming at.  It's kind of the same as a peep sight in that you have to center the front bead in the aperture.  All that notwithstanding I like still like my red dot and may next try mounting one on a long gun.
