Barrel band Handis
«

For those of you who've put a barrel band on your Handis, could I see what they look like? Do they alter the balance and carry of the gun? Does the band change the barrel harmonics for the better or worse? Which brands do you prefer? Thanks.

I don't have one, but there are pics of them here and there... I think the bands are typically from NECG, Talley or Uncle Mikes (make sure you measure your barrel dia at the spot you want it to be and get one close to that size. :

I used Uncle Mike's on 4 barrels. Didn't like them. The screws strip before the band is sufficiently tight and they slip. These rifles all wear BC carbine Schnable forends and I was afraid of splitting them. I'm doing without slings.

Thanks for the comments fellas. I've seen pics of the bands on H&R slug guns and they look "handy" but don't know how they effect rifle barrel harmonics, if they do at all. Right now the gun is shooting good with handloaded and factory .45-70 ammo. Maybe let this sleeping dog lie?

This is the style sling I'm gonna put on my BC. I think it looks nice and as long as you don't tie the knot right even on top, it doesn't mess with the irons.
If you are using scopes, then no issues. My goal is only to use for carrying though, not for shooting tension.

Look for: "GrovTek", they're made in USA and have a good reputation. I believe they also make Handi hammer extensions.

My 45-70 came with a band when I bought it. I don't know what brand it is but it fits well and has never slipped.

You can 'stitch' up a tight loop on a nylon sling to slide over and use a typical QR loop at the rear. No slip, no marr, no worries about the stinkin' little screw. If you carry it muzzle down it keeps its place at the front of the forestock.
