Best shooting gun for CB shorts?
« on: March 01, 2010, 05:44:40 AM »
I picked up some CCI CB shorts for possible pest control, and tested it with two guns.  It shot poorly in my long barreled CZ-452 rifle and did well in my Ruger single six revolver, I shot it at 25 yards and 50 yards, probably could hit something medium size on the first 1-2 shots, though not nearly as good as the preferred .22 LR.  I have read that the regular .22 LR prefers 18" barrels, and I suspect that the anemic CB short shoots best in handguns.

Has anyone else found the handguns to be better than the rifles, and if so, would a 4" barrel be better than an 8" barrel?

Thanks.

I use a Model 60 Marlin Glenfield, a Ruger 10/22, and a Browning Buckmark pistol with CB caps. Have for years. The Marlin is much quieter because of the longer barrel, and the Ruger is only slightly louder. It has a peep, and Marlin has the scope. I prefer the peep as I am shooting them in my back yard with head shots to squirrels in my pecan trees. I need to shoot shovel and shut up as quickly as possible. All shoot them just fine.

Any Lever, or Bolt action rifle with a tube magizine that has a barrel under 20".
I shoot CB longs in most of my 22's.  The rotary mags from the 10/22 do not like the longs or shorts and you need a pair of needle nose pliers to load the 10/22, or at least I do with my sausage sized fingers.
Any of the Ruger single six guns work.  I had mine in the garage for a year loaded with the Aguilla humming birds to shoot mice trying to get into the dog food.  About 5 a day was normal.
I now have a tube fed gun set up for shooting CB's in the back yard.  I found that the shorts work best with the 10 - 18 barrels. any longer than that and they start to be come erratic at 50M.

Keep in mind they are a short range affair . People at one time caught them in their teeth at shows .

I use them in an old Mossberg built New Haven. Probably 22" barrel and they are very accurate out to 25 yds. Haven't shot them further than that. Keeps the squirrel population in check.

They shoot beautifully from my ASTRA CUB 22SHORT , going into the bottom of a beer can all day long at 25 yards. The COLT JUNIOR 22SHORT does not do nearly as well prefering CCI 22SHORT MINI-MAG ammo.
