Does anyone know how to make root beer from Wild Sarsaparilla roots?  I've got a lot of it growing on my lot.

Hi
We used to make sassafras tea. If it was winter we used the roots. If it was spring we used the twigs. If it was summer we used the leaf.  It depended where the sap was at that time of year.  We would boil them over our camp fire and make hot tea with them.

We always made sassafras tea from dried roots. It was always thought to be a blood purifier by old timers, a Spring Tonic. In fact it is a diaretic and you do have to be careful not to drink too much. A cold glass of sassafras tea would go pretty good right now. Dang it all, ya went and made me thirsty! ROFL
