Volcanos, Iceland & The EU
« on: April 19, 2010, 02:27:17 AM »
After watching how the great EU has handled their little dust storm, I now feel much safer knowing they are our ally.   I guess the ole US of A needs to bail them out again.  Nuke the volcano, or perhaps send Nancy P. to Iceland to scare the ash back into the mountain?

Actually, volcanoes spewing ash into the atmosphere is more likely to cause a cooling affect.  The summer following Mt. St. Helens' eruption was quite cool and rainy around here.  The dust filters the sun and increases the chance for moisture to condense and form rain.  Rainy days tend to be cooler than clear sunny days.

I'm hoping that the jet stream will carry the Iceland dust to a different hemispere as it travels around the Earth.  I'm still hoping for any global warming that mght come our way.  Who the hell wants global cooling?

Yes, Act of God. Pretty hard to build an economy around an active volcano anyways. Especially an island. What were they thinking......oh, that's right, their economy crashed a short while back. Nevermind.

We go through this two or three times a year.  We have lots of active volcanos here in Alaska.  The Alaska Airline pilots have learned how to fly around them, and their ash clouds.  No big deal, get on with it.
Where is old Joe when we really need him?  Alaska Independence    Calling Illegal Immigrants "Undocumented Aliens" is like calling Drug Dealers "Unlicensed Pharmacists"
What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

Heck yes, Osama should take the big jet that we provide him with and show the world how it's done.  Fly that sucker right through the worst ash cloud he can find.  I'm sure the Air Force pilots could give him a crash course on how to fly that big bird all by himself.  He could even take Joe and Nancy and Harry and...how many can that plane hold?

BIG difference between EU and North American airspace. While most NA airspace is open to commercial and private aircraft it isn't so in Europe which as far as I know operates in tight coridors for civil aviation.
