The only way to get a correct answer is for you to write a letter to the Attorney General of the State of Texas.

Folks here can tell you what they think but right answer will only come form the AG.

And if it is anything at all like California, you may also want to check your local District Attorney.   I know that with CAs AWB, the CADoJ will say something is legal, but check with the DA because that worthy may have other ideas and you will have all sorts of legal issues.

my experience is that you will get different and conflicting answers from different branches of the law enforcement system.  When I moved to PA and brought my cannon, I called the state police to ask about firing blank charges on the 4th of july and was told that (a) it was an illegal explosive device (b) I needed a pyrotechnics display permit to fire it (c) there are no restrictions on muzzleloaders and (d) if I belong to a renenactment group it is ok.

I heard ....

WELCOME to the board!

You've gotten the best advice, go to the source - the law and those that enforce it.

Let me add this, never go to law enforcement officer for interpretation of the law always go the the Attorney General or District Attorney.

I state this with authority as a 34 year career law enforcement retired officer---cops don't know the law.

Thank you Gentlemen for this sound advice. I will definitely be doing just that talking to the DA,  If I can get an appointment scheduled. Wish me luck

I will be interested in an "official" answer to this question.  I have logged thousands of miles pulling a full scale 10 pounder Parrott Rifle on an open trailer across Texas as well as many National events.  It definately is the hit of the highway.  Never once was there any more than curiosity from passing law enforcement officers.
I was at a gas station one night in Louisiana.  I was pulling my gun and a buddy was pulling his Wiard Rifle.  We were getting gas when a sheriff walked over from his patrol car and said "where are you boys going?"  I said, "sir, we are on our way to DeRidder to shoot Yankees".   He busted out laughing and told us to be careful as he strolled off. ::)

On the other hand, I do recall a re-enactment friend who was stopped by a female trooper and held at gunpoint while laying on the ground for two hours until the mess was straightened out and they were allowed to go on their way.  DD's right, cops don't always know the law.

Here another old cop rule, don't visit the  DA and talk to them.  Write them a letter and ask your question, get the answer in writing and then keep the letter.  That also is why the  State Attorney general is one step better than the District Attorney. Different DA's can offer their interpretation and it is valid only in their District.  The DA in the next county may have a different spin.  The  State Attorney General is at the top of the food chain gives the  definition for statewide use.

Yea, the atty general is your best bet. I contacted a state assemblyman about a law they voted on and they had no idea.

On the other hand, we fire our cannons (blanks!) up the driveway across the street from our County D.A., and have never heard a word from him...and that's weekends, when he is home, too! Ah, the benefits of living here on the Southern Oregon Coast! ( No snow, Double D!)  BoomLover

Don't give me that no snow garbage, remember, I use to live and work there...I've seen Battle Rock covered in snow...never in daylight but it was covered in snow, always gone before  Daylight.  ;D ;D ;D

Now wind on the other hand well you win that one hands down...When ever we got winter storm warnings I always loaded up the chain saw in the patrol car to cut trees out of the highways....

I have also fired a cannon form Battle rock.

Cafes Port Orford? why Bartlett's and Orford's of course...This is significant to the topic and good example.  I was the resident night Deputy in that town.  I fired my "cannon" in that county and in that town...and I can't tell you if it was legal....
