Redding boss press primer catcher
« on: March 07, 2010, 06:32:52 AM »
After a lot of research, I ordered a Redding boss press. I don't load a lot of magnum cases and didn't have a extra 50.00 for the big boss II, that has the primer tube. Has anyone come up with a modification to catch the spent primers. A little back yard engineering can fix a lot of issues sometimes ;D. Thanks, Don

Don

The little cup ( with magnetic bottom ) that comes with the press is not too bad , I have found that it doesn't drop any more on the floor than the BB2  , you will want to keep it about 1/8" or so away from the ram though , otherwise it gets caught by the shell holder and dumps all over the place .  ;D

Just a suggestion - I have an old RCBS Rockchucker. It has to be the worst at handling spent primers. I solved my problem with the cheapest Lee bench press they make and a universal die to punch out primers with. It works real well, rarely do I get a primer on the floor and I use it for every thing. I did have to do some filing around the primer hole to smooth it up, because it would spit one out on the floor once in a while. It sets right next to my RCBS press. I not only use it for punching out primers, I use it with a bullet puller too.
