caster glands

i caught asmall beaver yesterday, after skinning it, i was going to take the casters out but they completely empty. the oil sacs were almost empty, the oil in them was alight yellow and was more of acream then aoil. is this typical for this time of the year? the beaver was a female, if that makes adifferencejust got me wondering.

 Trav, nothing real odd about that. Small beavers (or any sized beaver)can have empty castor glands, if they are slinging mud and castoring it up--they will not have full castors.Small beaver usually do not have a lot of castor to begin with,so it doesn't take much use to empty them.
 Sac oil is more of a creamy texture than a real oil and varies in color from yellow to white to brownish.
