I've seen them on gunbroker for less than $275. It will give you a good idea of what they are selling for.  I picked up a Sav M 116 ss in 270 with tasco scope and sling for $345 and a M110 in 7mag with Leup 6x scope for $275.  I agree the 200s are over priced so I moved on to the Savage models.   But I may have to go to the Stevens to get a short action receiver for my next project, as the short action Savages sell for more.

I just bought a 30-06 a couple of months ago for $279 at Dunhams Sporting Goods, this included mounts, rings and 4X scope. It was $300 even with sales tax. It is now a 7mm-08 with different bolt handle, trigger and recoil lug; oh, and a different scope ;D I did retain the scope mount, nothing wrong with the rings, but I had rings already on the scope I mounted.

In my neck of the woods - If I watch closely, I can buy the Stevens 200 for less than Handi rifles. Handi's in 44 Mag and 500 S&W run around $299 in the local gun stores. The Stevens, if on sale, costs $279 or some times even less. I have 3 of them and none are stock, but I have 2 Handi frames and 6 barrels and none of them are stock either.

I bought my Stevens 200XP in .223 last year from a local gun shop.  It came with a mounted Bushnell 3-9x40 and the plain gray stock.  It was $395...I thought it was a bit high, but I figured I would support local business.  I love the rifle and it's a great shooter.

I picked up my first one in .223 Rem last week at our local MC Sports , it was $305 out the door and thats not bad for around here .

I think I'm going to like this little rifle , balance is very good / fit & finish are better than I expected , however I did have to put a SSS trigger in it though , damn thing came with one that needed a jack to shoot as stock , upwards of 6# . Yuck  :D

You can easily lighten the factory trigger on the Stevens 200.

Stimpy,

I just spotted this thread. Usually I don't check this one. The secret to getting a good Stevens/early Savage trigger is to change out the L shaped trigger spring with a lighter music wire spring (@.041), and then adjust the take up. My son bought one is .308 that must have had an 8# pull. After he went to bed that night, I exchanged the spring & adjusted the screws. When he picked it up the next morning there was a clean 2.75# pull.

I have extra wire if you are interested just PM me.

our price at jerry's as a non stocking dealer has got up to $264.90, a package(scope included) was $304.50. stocking dealers do better. this will give you an idea as to what they are wanting for gross profit.
