Tang sight here!
« on: April 07, 2010, 11:48:25 AM »
So I put it on!  Looks great.   ;D  But I like tang sights anyway.    ;D

Problem is I didn't order the front mounting screw.   :-[  The rifle came with a spare rear tang screw for a tang sight and I could have sworn the sight came with a front screw.  Such is not the case.   ::)  So now I have to order a set, but I'll be darned if I'll pay the shipping Midway wants to charge!   :(

I'd get a folding rear sight but they are out of stock.   :(  I'd get a front sight with an ivory bead but I don't know what height...  :(  And speaking of front sights, Dee, I can see the front blade, the one I put nail polish on, much better with the tang sight then I ever could with the open sights!   I may just leave it there!  ;D

Check at one of your gunshops around you Richard.  They are bound to have one you need, one of the hardware stores may even carry it if you know what size ya need.  Did Kathie miss the nail polish or did ya get it back in time? ;D  DP

[I'd get a folding rear sight but they are out of stock.     I'd get a front sight with an ivory bead but I don't know what height...  ]

FWIW, order both the front sight and the rear folder in the same height as the issue sights.

The folder can then be zeroed, just like the issue sights, except I would make it's zero about 50yds.

THEN, the tanger can be zeroed for a longer distance, dependant upon the cartridge - but about 125-150yds seems reasonable.

When I use my rifle set up like that, I hunt with the tang folded, bbl sight "up" - for sudden/snap shots.

When game is spotted further afield, I've always had ample time to fold down the barrel sight as I raised the tang sight for the longer, more deliberate shot.

BTW - The Lyman tang sights, I've bought new (3), all had front and longer tang screws as part of the sight/deal; but not so with the two Marble's tang sights I've bought.

I know what ya mean Richard. I put a Marbles tang on my ole Winchester, and I am back in business with that 20" barrel again. Believe it or not, yesterday I hit a white plastic bottle cap off a water bottle first shot, at 108 yards with it.

dpe.ahoy is probably right about the screw too Richard. OR! You could go to Lowe's and get yourself one a them hex-head self tappin screws and put it in with a socket in your cordless drill. ;D

While your lookin in your screw bucket try to find a lock washer too. Don't wont that screw workin loose. If the screw and washer are a little rusty, just tell everybody the gun is old and worth a lot of money.

I did the same dang thing.  I read somewhere they come with the front screw.  Mine came today, been on back order for a while now.  The folding rear sight is a tad to small for the dovetail as well.  Going to start another thread on that.

I do like the the rear tang, I think it is going to be great.

Please do, or just add to this thread.  I'm anxious to hear about the folding rear sight.   ;D

I have a Rossi Mod 59 and I saw that it was a copy of the Taurus so I went to Taurus site and got a tang sight.  Fits, and works great.  I am going to put one on my Marlin 336.  And it only costs $33.

"Just tell everbody the gun is old and worth a lot of money".
I heard that Dee...... Like at the gun shows. If your gun has had some rust on it,..... It's rust. If the dealer is selling a gun that has had some rust on it...... Well hell, .. that aint rust,... that's "patina".
  You know.
                     Good luck with that screw 'Law;
