H&R / NEF Handi Rifle in 22 Hornet Availability (Update)

Hi All,

I'm looking to buy a 22 Hornet Handi-Rifle that I can use for varmint hunting.  I called a local sporting goods store (Kittery Trading Post in Kittery, Maine) and the gun shop employee said that his computer was indicating that the 22 Hornet Handi Rifle was discontinued in 2008.  He checked both under NEF and H&R and they both listed that it was discontinued in 08.

Have the 22 Hornet HandiRifles really been discontinued?  Can I get a 22 Hornet barrel from the factory if I buy a Handi Rifle in a different caliber?

Yes, it was discontinued, the only way to know if they have any Hornet acc barrels is call, I doubt they do yet.

I have one on the way (synthetic) from R&R Arms.  When I ordered mine last Thursday, they had 3 more in stock.  Look around a little on the site - there are some hornet models that they no longer have in stock - but they did have the one that I am getting.

I stopped by a local hunting/fish store and spied a nice, slightly used, NEF Handi Rifle.  It had a redish laminate stock, open sights, and a weaver style scope rail on it.  It was in great shape so I took it home!  I think it has a 22" barrel.

I cleaned the barrel and put a sling on it (moved it from my bolt action). I also have an inexpensive (relatively) "tactical" 4x scope that has a quick release lever.  I put it on the rail and it seems to fit snugly.

 I am planning to take it to the range this weekend to sight it in.  I also bought some Winchester .22 Hornet cartridges.  They were pricey, but the owner gave me 50% off (I ended up paying $20 for 50 rounds).  I am going to order a set of reloading dies and some .224 caliber bullets and start reloading for this puppy!

I'll try and snap some pictures this weekend and post them on the forum. Thanks again for the advice and replies.
