best i could tell it was in good order. lock up was tighter than my lipsey's 44 special brand new. the finish still looks really good just looks like a bunch of fingerprints and it needs a good wipedown. i think tomorrow or saturday ill put it on layaway. btw what weight bullets were the barrels rifled for? i know that during that era there was a light for caliber craze in the handgun world. and did i mention that it has what looks like sheephorn grips already on it?

I think you'll find that Seville is more geared to the Silhouette craze than the light for caliber craze - JMHO

It was the darling of the IHMSA crowd for several years.

It's apt to be gone by Saturday ;)

good. pushing 240-315 grain bullets is my idea for this gun if i can get out of work in time tommorrow, i will definately have it laid away. how hard can the gun be pushed? will it take a steady diet of ruger level loads or is it like a pre endurance package smith?

My personal opinion is "Rugers are built to take it, and the Seville could pick up where they left off."

It was that good from where I stood - on the range. I worked up a load to use in a Super Blackhawk Silver Jackhandle, back around 1991. It was a great piece of work. 304gr SSK 16bhn, I forget the powder charge or even which powder. It was all the Ruger wanted. Primers were just short of flowing (I backed it down from "flowing pressure" and likewise from "sticky extraction". It was designed to hunt bear and had to be flawless. It was. Accuracy was totally acceptable. Ran 10 for 10 at pigs at 100m. The owner of the Seville stepped over, discussed the load, etc and asked if he could shoot a couple. He did. Then asked if he could shoot a couple in his Seville, at his own risk. He did. Absolutely no pressure signs. Accuracy was right there. I had more of the "flowing primer/sticky extraction" loads and, you guessed it, he shot those up without a hiccup. Sevilles are built stout.

Check out "Shooting Steel" - It is 420 pages of 'the best from 10 years of "The Silhouette" 1977-1986'; the 10th anniversary of IHMSA. Lots of stuff on the Seville and others of that time period.

Sure hope you get it!! I had a couple Abilenes, which is a very distant cousin to the Seville. I never broke one, and they were accurate, but I didn't think they had the fit of a Ruger, and I was leary of their strength - they are not up to a Seville - JMHO. C-O-L-T cocking the hammer came out ping-ping-ping-ping like a tinny sound from cheap parts. Like I said, I never broke one, but I didn't drive them very hard and didn't have them very long. I paid $185 a piece for them and sold them for $285 about 8 months later. I was going through a divorce and needed the money. They go for $500 or better right now. Not sure where a Seville runs, but for sure they aren't cheap.

flexjr - tension is mounting.... ;)

Got this in a note from Lee Martin at www.singleactions.com this morning.

"Sevilles and El Dorados are the smoothest. Virginian Dragoons are the tightest fit, and Abilenes are a notch above Blackhawks."  Lee
Thought you might find it interesting. I had asked his opinions on relative quality. I've had Abilenes, have fired Virginian Dragoons, have only seen Sevilles and El Dorados in pictures.

I am obviously envious of your find!

this is my first case of dumb luck or being at the right place at the right time. i put the revovler on layaway today and will pay the rest of it off on saturday of next week. i work at a hospital and due to payday and weapons on hospital policies that is the earliest i can get it and stay legal. the sales clerk who dealt with me said he knew the pistol and the man who originally owned it and that he took good care of the pistol. pics will follow when i get it and if i had thought today i would have taken a camera phone picture of it. i have been looking at the gun parts book at abilene disections and the bolt/trigger spring look like the flat type i am thinking i may have to change that just to be safe before i get too wild with it. thanks for your input as i wouldn't have bought it if it was not at least as strong as a ruger. i have a 44 special blackhawk already and wouldn't want to carry something that big around that would only handle limited use full power loads. i am seeing the jim wilson 44 mag load and me becoming real good friends. by the way if what he was telling me was true i will be the second individual owner of a seville from the seventies. life is good.

I once owned a Seville single action Sheriffs model in 45 Colt.  Deep blueing and tore out the bullseye at 25 yards off hand all day long.  It was my understanding that Ruger put them out of biz on a patent infringement charge.  If so that was too bad as I liked the Seville better than my Rugers.  The gun left my hands when I was offered more money than I paid for it, wish I still had it, hind sight is 20/20. 8)

Check with Lee Martin at www.singleactions.com - his web has a bunch of Seville info as well as the various production plants. He is probably the leading authority on Sevilles and their cousins.

Congrats on the find. I stumbled upon an Abilene a few months ago and became familiar with the "family".

Can I ask what you mean by "weapons on hospital policies"?

At a gunshow here in Sandpoint, my pal picked up an Abilene 44mag from the Riverhead, NY plant. Has the transfer bar that Ruger sued (and won) them over. I've read that some were blued, some were stainless and some were nickel, though it was reported that no one had seen a stainless from the Riverhead plant. My pal thinks his is nickel. So do I. It is very highly polished. Fit and finish are superb. Oh ya, $500.00

it is my understanding that they frown on having a firearm on hospital property even if it amounts to a club. my gun was deffinately used but not abused. i tore it down to its parts the night i got it home and the transfer bar is the only similarity to a nmb i saw. pics will come on the gun time is just not working for it right now. it shoots just no groups yet. to me it is just a little bit on the heavy side but that is not cause for me to part with it any time soon.

Remember, if you find it's not your cup of tea, I'll give you your money back and shipping and maybe a little to boot, after all you did clean it and check it out!  :) Actually no joke, I really would.

On hospital property - got it. Was just hoping you weren't alluding to something else such as company policy dictating non-ownership, etc (By the way, constitutional or not, such a thing exists).
