OK Gents and Gals, need your ideas. Smokepole #5 is due here any day now, and I already know it needs parts. Its a CVA Kentucky 45 capper that was built from a kit by some fellow in NC, but he lost the buttplate and mounting screws (and who knows what else I'll find when it gets here?) for it somewhere along the line.

I emailed CVA, twice, and they won't even reply (which really T's me off since I've bought 5 of their stinkpoles in the last 2 months). Dixie doesn't have it, nor TOW, MSM, LC, TB or any of the other smaller on-line sites I checked.

So, where do I find the replacement parts I need for the rifle???

Also, I guess this guy did a horrible job finishing the stock - too light and blotchy, so I expect to have to strip it and redo it. Know any products that will make the task easier?

Ladobe,.... Depend'n on "what" CVA rifle you have,... some of "TRADITION'S" rifle parts might be purty "close",... you might try them. (jest'a idea)

You can probably find something that will work well for a butt plate here:

Click the product index button on the left - and then butt plates.

They show a large variety and give sizes. A call to them might fix you right up.

Are you talkin about that split stock kit cva makes? If so don't dispare,if made proper they can be a shooter! Trouble is, most beginers with kit's don't take enough wood off the generous stocks provided to make the brass parts fit. The brass in those ol' CVA kit's is pretty raw also. That's a good thing!
I got a butchered kit off Auctionarms a year ago for $85 I tossed in maybe $30 fer parts an 40 odd hrs of labor/puttsen/fun/saturday afternoons, an I got a nice .45 short range off hand shooter that's got me a few items off the blanket.
I started with a rasp and finished with 400 grit.
CVA has the butt plate. it was 7.95.. i used a different cva butt and made it work,the link for parts can be found from their site,but it's a different,?,?

Their phone no. is 765-525-6181. I believe they bought everything for several of the CVA kits and are putting them out under a different name. I.e. the CVA Mountain Rifle is their Deer Creek Rifle. They may be able to help you with a new but plate.

Thanks for all your comments, suggestions and kind offers. They are greatly appreciated and may be a big help to me, depending.

The rifle showed up, is a bit less than what I expected and now I am at a crossroads on what to do with/about it. Please see another thread I posted tonight... "CVA Kentucky Capper Kit".

A good striper for stocks is Easy Off Oven Cleaner. Used it a number to get the oil out of military rifle stocks. Spray it on, set in the sun. Wipe it off, including using a damp cloth. Allow to dry, or redo to get a lighter stock. Sand and finish as you desire.
