 when taking a muzzel loader to canada can you cross the border with black powder and 209 or musket caps? i have been invited to hunt caribou in northern quebec on snowmobiles and want to take my .58 huntsman if i go
looking for ejectors - 308, 8mm, 35 rem, 25-20, 32-20, 357 mag, 45LC

is your 58 cal a flintlock?? if so, it is not registered here. You can buy flintlocks over the counter without registering them. Just declare to the border official. blackpowder and caps are fine too.

it's a .58 huntsman with both a musket cap and a 209 primer breech plug    i shoot loose powder and a 585 gr minnie

AFAIK, reloading components in Canada require no licencing - yet. So the easiest route would simply be to buy them when you get here.

As far as hunting in Canada, I imagine it's easiest if you just bring in a bow, antique rifle, or flintlock, or borrow a weapon from a guide or something. But you can bring in any reasonable hunting rifle outside of the AR series - just be prepared for paperwork.
