10 ga barrel on a 12 ga reciever?
« on: February 08, 2010, 04:18:50 AM »
Can I do this swap? Checked the FAQ but didn't see anything discussing swaps on shotguns. The frame on the 410, 20 and 12 all look the same but haven't seen a 10 up close and would like to fit one to my 12's reciever.

No, 10ga barrels have bigger chamber swells and won't fit an SB1 frame, they require the SB2 shotgun frame that comes on 10ga shotguns and 12ga Ultra Slug Hunters.

Hmmm. I thought the rifle's were the SB1 and all the shotguns were SB2's. Course we all know what assuming makes ya. LOL!!

Shotgun frames are SB1(they do put 357 and 44 mags on SB1 frames tho)

Centerfire rifle frames are SB2

10ga/12ga USH frames are SB2 shotgun frames, not to be confused with SB2 rifle frames, thanks a lot H&R!!  ::)

Rimfire frames are SS1.

Can you put a rifle barrel on the 10ga frame then?

Not without some work bedding the underlug in the larger frame opening, the rifle chamber swell is too small to fit well, and the large firing pin and hole in the breech face will cause problems with higher pressure rounds.

So much for that idea. LOL!  Reckin I'm changing my mind about an ol' 10 ga. Don't think I want a stand alone frame.
